Kay Hanley lost her job as a backup singer for Miley Cyrus. She won't go into details, but said that playing second fiddle to a teenaged pop star wasn't quite her dream gig.

"I got fired and trust me, that was a really good thing," she said. "It wasn't a job that I should ever have had in the first place. I was earning good money for my family, so of course it was horribly painful to lose the job. But I'd hate to think what my life would be like if I hadn't. In that sense, I'm the luckiest person in the world."
Hanley's own music took a backseat during her five years with Cyrus, but she says that's about to change.
"For the last few years, I've been happy working behind the scenes," she said. "Fronting a band again was so not what I was expecting, but that's how the best things always happen. Right now, I am thrilled - and I think I'm kind of good at being a frontperson."
