Lionsgate has acquired U.S. distribution rightts to coming-of-age comedy “LOL,” starring Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore and Ashley Green (“Twilight”), from Mandate Pictures.
Lionsgate hasn’t set a release date for “LOL,” an American version of the 2008 French comedy “Laughing Out Loud.”
Lisa Azuelos directed “LOL” from her own script, in which a Cyrus’ character and her friends navigate the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship while dodging their sometimes overbearing and confused parents. When her mom, played by Moore, “accidentally” reads her daughter’s racy journal, she realizes just how wide their communication gap has grown.
Producers are Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher of Double Feature Films and Tish Cyrus with Mandate President Nathan Kahane, Azuelos, Romain Le Grand and Jerome Seydoux exec producing. Co-producers are Double Feature’s Taylor Latham, Mandate’s Nicole Brown and Kelli Konop and Jim Powers.
Mandate, a subsidiary of Lionsgate, operates as an independent brand with “LOL” marks the first collaboration between the two companies.
Also starring are Thomas Jane (“Hung”), Gina Gershon, Marlo Thomas, Fisher Stevens and Nora Dunn along with young thesps Adam Sevani, Jay Hernandez, Austin Nichols, George Finn and Douglas Booth.
